Dalit NGO Federation (DNF) raised the issue of Proportional Representation of Dalit women in the CA

 

Dalit NGO Federation (DNF) carried out its another district campaign in Dahagadhi, Kailali on last 19 Paush 2064. Around 300 of Dalits with the majority of Dalit women actively participated in the mass demonstration in Dahangai, the headquarter of Far-western region. The mass rally was organized and led by Mahila Utthan Kendra with the collaboration of other local Dalits organizations affiliated with DNF and other civil society based organizations in Dhangadhi?

The rally started from campus road of Dhangadi which walked around the city shouting Dalit demands and slogans with banner and placards. The major slogans and demands of Dalits shouted in the rally included fix immediately the date of CA poll, ensure proportional representation of Dalit that of 50% of Dalit women in the CA, abolish Chaupidi Pratha and Hali Pratha, ensure and Provide land to landless Dalits, and ensure 20% reservation to Dalits etc. After the demonstration within the city, the rally was converted into the interaction programme entitled "Ensurance of proportional representation of Dalits in the Constituent Assembly and role of political parties" which took place in the hall of Local Development Office of Dhangadi.

Ms. Hira Devi Parki, local Dalit women leader and the president of Dalit Single Women Organization, was the main chief guest of the programme.Likewise; the major representatives of political parties and their Dalit sister organizations were Mr.Tilak Bahadur Singh of Nepal Communist Party (UML),Mr.Dirgharaj Sodari, district committee member of Nepal Communist Party (UML) Ms. Sharmila Baral, district committee member of Nepal Communist Party (ML),Mr.Dharma Raj Pande, Distric president of People Front Nepal Party, Mr.Nar Bahadur B.K, Mukti Samaj, Mr.Chhatra Bahadur Baraily,Central vice-president of Nepal Dalit Sangh.

Other guests and speakers in the programme from Dalit and non-dalit organizations were Mr.Gajesh B.K 'Deulyal', central member of DNF and central president of Rastriya Dalit Network, Ms.Sarita Parajuli, Officer of National Human Rights Commission, Mr.Rup Singh Sob, Vice-president of NNSDWO, Mr.Laxman Tulachan, representative of Janjati –Adibasi Sangh, Ms Mina Sob, president of Nawa Pratibha Sangh and Ms.Rama Chand, president of Sukumbasi Utthan Samaj etc.

Major issues and concerns were raised by the representatives and guests of the programme to be ensured through the election of constituent Assembly. The representatives of the political parties had strongly committed to raise the issues of proportional representation of Dalits and Dalit women within their party level.

The programme was chaired by the president of Mahila Utthan Kendra Ms.Santi Devi Bhul and moderated by the Secretary of the organization Ms.Madhu Thapa Chhetri.
